Duck and Oliver are great western engines. Duck was brought to the Island to help Percy in the yard, while Oliver, along with his brakevan Toad, was rescued from scrap by Douglas. Duck takes the passenger trains, while Oliver takes the goods trains.
One night, Oliver and Toad are in their sheds, talking. Oliver is about to go to sleep, when Toad asks if anything is wrong. Oliver replies by saying that he's tired of taking goods trains. Toad and Stepney both suggest that he talks to Duck about swapping jobs, but Oliver doesn't think that Duck would give up his passenger trains. Then, they see Duck arriving at the sheds, and Oliver agrees to ask Duck, while Toad goes to sleep.
Duck tells Oliver that he had 7 or 8 passengers trains, and claims that he can't take that many train all of the time. Stepney asks if Duck would like to swap jobs with him, but Duck refuses the offer. Stepney then goes to sleep too. Before Duck goes to sleep, he asks if there's anything else that Oliver wants to talk about. Oliver says yes, and asks if he could maybe take a passenger train. Duck says he can, and Oliver is very happy, then the two engines fall asleep.
The next morning, Oliver is the first to wake up, and goes to get his coaches while he waits for Toad to wake up. Once Oliver has shunted his coaches, and is coupled to the front of the train, he feels proud of how on time he is. Neville praises Oliver, then asks why he is taking the passenger train instead of his goods trian. Oliver explains how he and Duck have swapped jobs, then Neville's whislte blows and he puffs away. Oliver is about to leave, when Edward reminds him of Toad. Oliver quickly fetches Toad and adds him to the back of the train, and soon he is on his way. Duck watches Oliver go by, then goes to collect his goods train
Donald brings Duck's goods train to Knapford Station, and asks Duck where Oliver is. Edward tells Donald what Oliver had told him earlier. Donald then wishes Duck good luck with the goods train, and puffs away. The trucks aren't happy about having Duck pulling them, and plan to pay him out.
Duck's journey goes well, until he approaches Gordon's Hill. The trucks plan to hold Duck back going up the hill, and push as they're going down. As Duck climbs the hill, the trucks hold back, and soon Duck grounds to a halt, just before the top of the hill. Thomas and Percy are soon sent to help Duck. Percy buffers up behind the train to push, and Thomas is coupled in front to pull. Duck feels embarrassed, but Percy tells him how Gordon always needs help up the hill. Thomas then tells Duck that Oliver is doing terrribly with the passengers. Duck asks what's wrong, and Thomas explains that as he was travelling past with Annie and Clarabel, he saw Oliver 'biffing and bashing' the coaches. Eventually, Thomas, Percy and Duck arrive at the docks, and Thomas and Percy leave.
That night at the sheds, Oliver regrets asking to take passengers, and apologizes to Duck. Duck tells Oliver about needing help up Gordon's Hill, and Oliver says that Edward had to take his passengers, as they didn't want to ride on Oliver's train. Duck says that they have all learned a lesson, and Oliver and Toad agree.

- Throughout the episode, the narrator stumbles over their words.

- During the Escape! flashback, Douglas is pushing Oliver and Toad, when in the episode, Douglas pulls them.
- When Donald brings Duck's trucks into Kanpford Station, he derails. This is because there was not enough room in the siding for Donald and the trucks.
- During the scene where Thomas couples up to Duck, the trucks are missing. This was done in order to keep Duck at the top of the hill.
